.The windows at Lambert have been boarded up since a tornado April 22 blasted through the airport.
Hilboldt Curtainwall is a certified WBE company based in South St. Louis that designs, makes and erects large curtain wall projects for hospitals, schools, corporate headquarters and government buildings.
Hilboldt has historic ties to the original construction of the Terminal which opened in 1956. “We were particularly interested in the reglazing of Terminal 1 since my father-in-law, Jack Hilboldt , did the original glazing when he ran Stanley Hanks Glass Co.,” owner Jane Hilboldt said.
The project will require replacing more than 300 panes of glass in the terminal’s ticketing lobby that were damaged by the Good Friday tornado. More than 15,500 square feet of new glass will be installed within the original floor-to-ceiling window framing. Installation of the windows will follow field measurements, a retrofit of the window frame system and the replacement of the glass panes. The project is expected to be completed by November, Lambert officials said.
Other tornado restoration projects are also underway including the $2.3 million roof replacement project on Concourse C and the repairs of Terminal 1 skylights.
The cost to repair all the tornado damages at Lambert will total more than $30 million . Lambert received a $10 million check from Lexington Insurance Co.
