According to police, a student at the University of Georgia in Athens was unable to outrun campus officers and numerous charges that would follow.
The 18-year-old male student was arrested on allegations of driving under the influence , obstruction of a law enforcement officer, improper driving, possession of an open container in a vehicle and underage possession of alcohol.
The incident began when an officer claims to have seen the student drive his vehicle into the curb of a campus intersection. The student continued into a nearby parking lot with the officer in tow, parked the vehicle, exited and allegedly took off on foot.
The officer recorded the student's license plate, and positively identified him with the help of school records. A search commenced for the student and another officer came across him hiding in the bushes at a nearby hall. The student once again took off on foot, but was apprehended.
Initially refusing to take a field sobriety test, the student later consented to a breath test where he purportedly registered .206 percent and .218 percent blood alcohol content. Upon searching the student's car, police reported that they found an open container of alcohol along with a driver's license that didn't belong to the UGA student.
He was booked in the county jail where bond was set at $7,750.
Another UGA student was incarcerated a night later on charges of DUI and improper turning. The 22-year-old male student made an improper turn on to College Station Road when police pulled him over and detected the scent of alcohol.
The man agreed to a sobriety test and was subsequently arrested and taken to the University Police Department where law enforcement determined he had a .116 and .111 blood alcohol content level.
Both students now face not only legal obstacles but possibly academic ones as well as a result of the charges.
