At this interactive training, you will review the history of public health in the United States, the organizational structure and mission of the Alameda County Public Health Department and its divisions, and the three core functions and ten essential services of public health. This training is interactive, so please be prepared to share with others what types of program and activities are housed in your division. is entitled "Cultural Competency and Cultural Humility," and is the second of the PH 101 five part series. The objectives of this interactive training are to increase awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, enhance skills for working across cultures and in diverse groups, and increase understanding of the meaning of cultural competency and cultural humility in the public health setting. is entitled "Undoing Racism," and is the third of the PH 101 five part series. The objectives of this interactive training are to: identify the underlying social, economic, and political conditions that disproportionately privilege some groups while disadvantaging others; identify how institutional racism impacts Alameda County residents, especially in relation to health outcomes; create a safe environment where public health department staff can discuss concerns about and ideas for addressing institutional racism and its impact on staff, the health department, and the broader community; and identify possible next steps to address institutional racism both at the personal and agency level. is entitled "Health and Social Equity," and is the fourth of the PH 101 five part series. The objectives of this interactive training are to increase awareness of: historical and current policies that lead to social and health inequities; the link between social inequities and health inequities; current health inequities; and what Alameda County Public Health Department is doing to address social and health inequities. is entitled "Community Capacity Building," and is the final module of the PH 101 five part series. The objectives of this interactive training are to: understand how community capacity building methods have historically been used in public health; be able to describe what are the principles and practices of community capacity building; understand how community capacity building can enhance traditional service delivery methods; assess the level of community capacity building that participants employ in carrying out their program duties; and develop one goal per participant for incorporating community capacity building principles into current program strategies.
