Rest Fest offers musical Labor Day weekend
A former dairy farm on the northern outskirts of Frederick, Md., is gearing up for what promises to be the major Labor Day weekend event in Frederick County. And located only 30 miles from Adams County, local residents may also feel drawn to the show.
Crumland Farms and Morningtown Productions present Rest Fest on Sept. 5, an arts and crafts festival and music concert drawing nationally known acts such as Blind Melon, Pat McGee and Lukas Nelson, among others.
Denny and Judy Crum own Crumland Farms, located along Route 15, north of Frederick. Area travelers may recognize the farm from their Corn Maze, or Holiday Lights Spectacular, which take place yearly. “Crumland is still a working farm,” said the couple. “The family grows wheat, soy beans, alfalfa and hay, but their main product is fun!”
Other events at the farm have included fireworks for July 4, a pumpking patch, Pizza Farm and more. Morningtown Productions expects this latest event, which will include over 50 arts and crafts vendors and 20 food vendors, to attract over 7,000 people for a day of relaxing music.
Best remembered for their 1993 single “No Rain,” Blind Melon enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock and still do to this day.
The Pat McGee band has just signed a multi-record deal with Kirtland Records and have spent much of this summer touring with Vertical Horizon in support of their album “Save Me.”
Lukas Nelson, son of country icon Willie Nelson, has made his own way as a musician and counts his vocal similarities to his father among his ingredients to success.
These three major acts will be joined by other local favortes Jah Works, the Knolly Moles, Amish Outlaws and others.
Rest Fest will kick off on Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. and last all day. In addition to craft, food and beverage vendors, kids’ activities will also be available. Tickets are free for children under age 6, $10 for ages 7-18 and $20 for adults and are available at www.tix.com or at Make N’ Music and Frederick Rock School in Frederick.
