MAYO: Robbery thwarted, two arrested
Mayo — The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office thwarted a robbery at Keen Forest Management in Mayo on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and arrested two suspects, said Sheriff Brian Lamb in a press release.
Acting on a tip regarding a possible theft, deputies staked out a shop at the business located at 2139 North CR 53 in Mayo, with permission of owner Clinton Keen.
Around 11 that night, while officers were staked out watching for the suspects, a blue Jeep Cherokee matching the description of the vehicle they were looking for, pulled into the driveway with two occupants and backed up to a trailer that was loaded with a John Deere Skid Steer, according to Lamb.
As the two suspects were attempting to hook up to the trailer they spotted vehicles coming toward them on CR 53, so they pulled away from the trailer so as not to look suspicious. LCSO deputies conducted a felony take-down of the vehicle and arrested the two suspects, Lamb stated.
Arrested were Garrett Ashton Arrowood, 22, of Perry and a while male juvenile, 16, also of Perry.
In a post-arrest interview with the suspects, Lamb said it was learned that they already had a buyer for the Skid Steer and they were going to deliver it in Madison that same night. Investigators from Taylor and Madison County Sheriff's Offices sat in on the interviews. The information obtained in the interviews helped to solve multiple burglaries and thefts in those two counties, said Lamb.
Both suspects face charges of second degree grand theft and conspiracy to deal in stolen property. Arrowood was booked into jail on a $20,000 bond while the juvenile was released to his mother per the Department of Juvenile Justice, said Lamb.
The Skid Steer is valued at around $60,000 and the trailer at $5,200.
