Three Island Days Celebration begins with events downtown, at Three Island Crossing State Park and Elmore County Fairgrounds. Highlights: Mountain Man Competition (knife and tomahawk tossing, tall tales and beaver skins) at state park; 4-6 p.m., chili cook-off downtown; and street dance downtown in the evening. Comedy Night with comedians Bob Zany (pictured) and Donnie Baker of the "Bob & Tom Show," 8 p.m. at the Gala Showroom at Cactus Petes Resort Casino, 1385 U.S. Highway 93 in Jackpot, Nev. Zany is a three-time American Comedy Award nominee, and his weekly feature, "The Zany Report," is syndicated nationally. Baker is the Pork Pistols lead singer/wolf expert. Zany has performed nearly 1,000 national television stints, including a spot on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno, and co-starring roles in "The Informant" and "Joe Dirt." He will appear on this fall's "Busch Light Bob & Tom Comedy All Stars Tour" and his own "50 x 50 Tour," plus a reality pilot "Road Kill" and the dramedy feature "23 Minutes to Sunrise" featuring Eric Roberts in August. Before we had our months names we named the moons of a year. This is were we got months — moon-ths. Our moon’s are associated with the time of the Full Moon, other cultures associate them with time of the New Moon. Here are the common moon names in the United States of America (combined eastern Amerind and European traditions) associated with their months:

But sometimes there are two moons in a month and there is a special name for the second month, the Blue Moon. This occurs because the lunar cycle is about 29.5 days and there is 30 or 31 days in a month except February. It is possible that February does not have a moon in it at all then January and March would have two moons. The Blue moon occurs about on the average about every 2.7 years. Whence comes the expression “once in a Blue Moon” indicating something that occurs infrequently.
