LHS science department making progress

The science department also had its second student within the past four years participate in the international science fair competition. Kelsi Berry, who constructed a barrier recognizing robotic unit, attended the week-long competition in Los Angeles, where she competed against 1,500 other students from around the world. According to Evans, the competition also included specialized visits to Los Angeles attractions such as the Nokia Center and Universal Studios. Two other students were also nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum for Medicine. Miles Metzger and Emily Noble, both of Leesville, were selected for the program, which is designed to prepare youth to be future physicians or leaders in medicine, according to Evans. Evans said that by attending the forum, the students received college credit for their work. Noble was also accepted into the Howard Hughes Biology Program at the University of Louisiana of Monroe, which is a program offered to 25-30 freshman biology students each year. Within the program, students collect environmental samples, extract and analyze DNA and at the end of the program, have the opportunity to have their reports published in scientific journals.

Responsible for all activities involving the operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment systems. Supervisory responsibilities for wastewater plants operators, technicians, and laborers, and works under the general direction of the Utilities Manager.

Thorough knowledge of the layout, location and equipment characteristics of wastewater systems.

Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations for areas of responsibility

Must possess a high school diploma or GED, plus at least five (5) years progressively responsible experience in supervision of operations, maintenance and administration of wastewater systems and treatment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for experience.
