Libyan rebels issue timetable for post-Al Qathafi constitution

( Xinhua ) - Libyan rebels had formulated a timetable concerning its constitution-drafting in post-Al Qathafi era, National Transitional Council (NTC) spokesman Abdel Hafiz Ghoga announced on Wednesday at a press conference.

The constitution announcement contains 37 items, Ghoga said.

After nationwide liberation, Libya will establish its government within 30 days, publish its electoral law within 90 days, and launch congress elections within 240 days and by that time Libyan Prime Minister would be elected and laws be made, according to the announcement.

Thirty days after the establishment of national congress, a committee will be formed and a draft constitution be made in the ensuing 60 days, it said.

Then in the following 30 days, Libya will ignite a referendum on the draft constitution, according to the announcement.

EU reinforces sanctions on Libya

The European Union (EU) on Wednesday extended assets freeze to two further Libyan entities to strengthen pressures on the embattled authorities.

The EU said the two entities were"closely linked to the perpetrators of the serious human rights abuses in Libya."

The decision went further on measures adopted in February, which introduced a travel ban and an assets freeze, while granting the necessary humanitarian exemptions.

In total, six port authorities, 49 entities and 39 persons are now subject to freeze of their funds and financial resources in the EU. In addition, the same 39 persons, which include Muammar Al Qathafi and several family members, are banned from entering the EU.

Iran: West trapped in Libya impasse

( UPI ) - The West has reached an impasse with its military intervention in Libya, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi says.

Salehi, speaking during a news conference Saturday with Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs Nassirou Arifari Bako, said NATO countries seeking the ouster of Libyan leader Muammar Al Qathafi have become bogged down in the face of his regime's continuing strong resistance.

"The West has reached an impasse in Libya and has completely destroyed the country and acted against the U.N. Security Council," Salehi said in a report by the official Mehr news agency.
