Naviera impulsará exportaciones
Disminución del dinamismo en los puertos de Limón, en Costa Rica, y Cortés, en Honduras, es lo que empresarios y funcionarios del Gobierno de Nicaragua prevén con la entrada en operación de una segunda naviera en el Caribe, que cubrirá la ruta El Rama-Miami.
Se trata de la compañía Santé Nica Line, que operará con la bandera de Nicaragua y que transportará unas 2.700 toneladas de carga seca y refrigerada cada 15 días, con lo que según Virgilio Silva, presidente de la Empresa Portuaria Nacional (EPN), reactivará el puerto Arlen Siú, localizado en el río Escondido, en El Rama (Caribe sur nicaragüense).
Nicaragua carece de un puerto de aguas profundas en el Caribe y la mayor parte de las exportaciones del país salen por los puertos de Honduras y Costa Rica, lo que ocasiona mayores costos, de acuerdo con los exportadores.
Según una nota de prensa de la agencia de promoción de inversiones ProNicaragua, la nueva línea naviera invirtió $8 millones en equipos, buques, puerto privado, contenedores y otros requerimientos para poner en marcha la ruta El Rama-Miami.
Bruno Elías Ramos, presidente de Santé Nica Lines, afirmó que la compañía es una sociedad anónima 100% nicaragüense, que cuenta con una naviera hermana (la Santé Shipping Lines), con sede en Miami, Florida, la cual opera desde el 2008 hacia varios destinos en el Caribe, América Central y la base de Guantánamo, en Cuba.
Exportaciones de vecinos
Virgilio Silva, presidente de la EPN, y diferentes empresarios, señalaron un ahorro de entre $1.300 y $1.500 por contenedor de 20 a 40 pies al dejar de exportar por Limón o Cortés.
Silva añadió que al país se le escapan 24 millones de toneladas por los puertos de Costa Rica y Honduras, mientras que por El Rama se mueven por año unas 30.000 toneladas.
Según el presidente de la EPN, el 48% de la carga nicaragüense sale por los puertos de los países vecinos, sin embargo, Mario Amador, presidente de la Cámara de Industrias de Nicaragua (Cadin), aseguró a EF que el volumen llega al 80%.
