Fifty things to do at Six Flags Over Texas
Fifty things to do at Six Flags Over Texas
Aug 09, 2011 (The Dallas Morning News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- On August 5, 1961, the first-ever Six Flags theme park opened in Arlington with only six sections to explore: Mexico, Spain, Texas, France, the Confederacy (Old South) and the United States of America. The six sections represented the six nations that once governed Texas, and subsequently inspired the name of the park. People visited from all over to experience animal-driven rides like the Overland Butterfield Stagecoach, a stagecoach ride pulled by horses, and Las Cocheses Cabras Goat Cart Ride, a ride pulled by a goat.
Today, the park has expanded to include six more sections, including Gotham City, Boomtown, Goodtimes Square, Tower, Star Mall and Looney Tunes USA. And now, as Six Flags Over Texas celebrates its 50th anniversary, the park is home to around 50 rides, including 13 roller coasters and 5 water rides.
I visited the park and compiled a list of 50 essential things to do and places to visit in the park.
Rides and Thrills
1. Conquistador. All hands on deck! You'll find this giant swinging boat in the Mexico and Spain section of the park, just a few minutes away from the front gate. The Conquistador is a Six Flags classic. 42" to ride.
2. Acme Rock-n-Rocket. This ride, modeled after what could be one of Wylie Coyote's crazy contraptions, makes the Conquistador look like a kid's ride. The Acme Rock-n-Rocket begins slow and normal, but it soon picks up speed and takes riders on a complete 360-degree spin. Find it in USA, right next to the All-American Cafe. 48" to ride.
3. Mr. Freeze. While waiting in line for most rides is hot and excruciating, waiting in line for Mr. Freeze is a breeze -- literally. You'll feel the cold air conditioning blasts when you enter the waiting area through the mouth of a giant, curious-looking clown. And the ride itself? One of the best in the park, as it relies purely on speed (70 mph, to be exact) to whip you around turns and shoot you up a 24-story vertical climb before dropping you back down to travel the ride backwards again. 54" to ride.
4. Batman: The Ride. Located beside his arch nemeses Mr. Freeze's coaster, Batman: The Ride visitors with a thrilling experience. This inverted coaster will have you safely secured and holding on as your feet dangle below you. Once you're seated and buckled in, you know it's time to ride when the floor drops from beneath you. Batman is full of twists, loops and corkscrews, and reaches speeds of up to 50 mph. 54" to ride.

They turn up at your front door, claiming you need an essential dance done, demand money upfront, then you never see them again." Perhaps that why Gangoolers looks so uncertain - he has absolutely no idea what to do with that ice-cream.

: Everyone got mad at Laurel and Gypsy Cara Maria when they were sent to “the jungle,” and tried to go in against Jenn-with-two-Ns and Mandi-with-an-I. Jonna and Jasmine ended up going in against them, and Laurel was “crushed” when CT-Patz wore a blue shirt to support team JJ. Jonna and Jasmine lost and were sent home. TJ sent the challengers a text that they would be headed to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The episode opens with the challengers doing a group cheer because they’re going to Buenos Aires. They show the challengers doing the Mexican hat dance in slow motion. Old-Lady-Paula does the flamenco. Gypsy Cara Maria wants to have a toga party…none of these things have anything to do with Argentina. Just sayin’.
Every one dresses up in togas and weird makeup, and to enter the party, they all must to different things as dictated by Johnny Bananas. Kenny has to take a lash on the ass from a bamboo stick. Old-Lady-Paula has to make out with Michael. They all get drunk. Jenn-with-two-Ns makes out with Adam. Old-Lady-Paula lashes Michael on the ass with a bamboo stick. Then she chokes him while they make out. Michael lashes Old-Lady-Paula on the ass with bamboo. Everyone starts picking on Michael, and Michael says this always happens to him and he’s tired of it.
Later that night, Michael freaks out because someone is throwing cookies at him while he’s in bed trying to sleep. He seriously goes postal and takes a page out of Half Baked yelling, “f*** you, f*** you, f*** you, I’m out.” Michael packs his bags and moves to a room with CT-Patz and Wes (which by the way, why the hell are they rooming together?). Leroy comes to talk to him and Michael yells at him because he didn’t stick up for him. Leroy makes a good point that Michael will tell the others to stop picking on him but then continues to play around with them. I wonder how Leroy is such a rational person and has gotten this far in the game.
The next day, everyone packs their bags and they fly south to Buenos Aires. Someone says it feels like The Real as they pull up to their new place. They look around and immediately find a bunch of wine and drink it. I guess Laurel and CT-Patz made up because they’re talking on the patio. Laurel calls out CT-Patz for wearing blue at the elimination challenge and he full on lies and says he was wearing all black. “Liar, liar,” I yell in Carol Kane’s voice from The Princess Bride .
